Chesterton’s Kelly Grassel, Yorktown team winners at golf state finals

Chesterton’s Kelly Grassel repeated as individual champion, and No. 1-ranked Yorktown claimed the team title in the IHSAA Girls’ Golf State Finals at The Legends Golf Club Saturday in Franklin.

Grassel fired a 69 in Friday’s opening round and had a 68 in Saturday’s second round for a 137 total, a 36-hole state finals record.

Yorktown tallied a 625 on the team side, fending off Carmel (639) and Noblesville (651).

Local highlights

Madison sophomore Amanda Detmer was the top local finisher. She shot a two-round 144 and tied for sixth place.

Floyd Central junior Eliza Hudson carded a 167 over the two-day event and tied in 47th.
